INTRADISTRICT OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR 2026-27 SCHOOL YEAR FOR A NON-RESIDENT / ZONED SCHOOL 

Sierra Sands Unified School District Board Policy 5116.1, Intradistrict Open Enrollment, provides a window of opportunity, May 1 - May 15 each year, for parents/guardians to request attendance at a non-resident/zoned school (Faller, Gateway, Inyokern, Las Flores, or Richmond*) for the following school year.

Non-resident/zoned open enrollment requests will be honored for the requested school if there is still capacity at that school after resident students have been accommodated. Students residing within a school’s designated attendance boundary are given priority and cannot be displaced by a student requesting a transfer.

Enrollment in a non-resident/zoned school is determined by lottery from the eligible applicant pool.   

Transfer request forms are available at the links posted below beginning May 1, 2026 and will be accepted through 4:00 PM on May 15, 2026. 

Applications will not be accepted after May 15. Late applicants shall not be added to a waiting list; instead, they shall wait for a subsequent lottery.

The District will NOT provide transportation to open enrollment students outside their zoned school’s established attendance area. 

Students currently attending a non-resident/zoned school through a previous open enrollment transfer do not need to submit a new request to remain at that school. However, as agreed in the transfer conditions, a non-zoned student may be displaced due to excessive enrollment at the requested school.

If your Open Enrollment request is approved, you will be notified by School Personnel the week prior to the start of school.

Electronic form submission is preferred. However, hard copies (paper) may be picked up beginning May 1, 2026, at Student Support Services, 1327A N. Norma Avenue, Ridgecrest, CA and must be turned in to Student Support Services by 4:00 PM on May 15, 2026.

Please note:  Students must be fully enrolled or pre-enrolled in their zoned Sierra Sands school to be eligible for an Open Enrollment transfer.  Please do not fill out a transfer request until your enrollment is complete.

New student enrollment is considered complete when all required documentation is provided to the school you are zoned for or uploaded with online new student enrollment.
